With a 191-197 victory over Lordstown on the Par-35 front nine at Yankee Run Golf Course, the Pymatuning Valley boys golf team claimed its sixth-straight Northeastern Athletic Conference championship.
“It’s always the same thing,” PV coach Jeff Compan said. “We don’t have big superstars. We try to avoid big numbers. We have superior depth to the other teams in the conference. We have five or six golfers and if one has a bad round, there’s usually somebody there to pick them up.”
Warren Kozlowski fired a 45 to lead PV over Lordstown. Tim Baker shot a 47, Chris French had a 48 and Chase Thurber tallied a 51.
During the streak, the Lakers (16-2, 13-1) have lost precious few matches in the NAC.
“Nobody wants to be the team that breaks the streak,” Compan said. “That’s goal No.1, then we want to do well at sectionals. We’ve only lost three league matches. The guys take pride in doing well in the league.”
Over the last few years, the Lakers have won the league despite being the team everyone is trying to get the better of.
“We joke all the time that teams bring their best to play us,” Compan said. “It’s always fun to be out there with a bullseye on your back. That tells the guys they well and are part of a strong tradition.”
