CONNEAUT — A report of an all-terrain vehicle crash sent police to Furnace and Colver roads late Saturday, according to Conneaut police reports.

Police were dispatched at 11:45 p.m. and when the first officer arrived on the scene,  he discovered Lyle Eichele lying on Furnace Road, the report said. Eichele appeared to be unconscious and the officer immediately called for an ambulance, according to police reports.

Several people told the officer that another man, with a female passenger, took off on a dark green all-terrain vehicle down Colver Road, the report said.

A witness said he and his family and friends were camping south of Colver Road when they heard “a couple of ATVs racing southbound,” according to the police report.  “When they went to go investigate, they heard a crash.”

When the campers got to the intersection of Colver and Furnace roads, they found Eichele in the road, the police report said.

A white and red Yamaha ATV was about 7-10 feet away, facing northwest, according to the police report.

A dark green ATV was said to be facing westbound, police said.

“The male and female suspects were lying on the roadway, as well,” police said.

When the campers saw that Eichele was not moving, the witness told the other man that he needed to call an ambulance, according to the police report.

According to the witness, the suspect man picked up the woman he was with and said, “He'll be fine. He'll get up,” and then he got on the dark green ATV with the female and left, according to the police report.

Conneaut police officers noticed that the red and white ATV matched the description of  an all-terrain vehicle reported stolen earlier that day at Crazy Dave’s Sugar Bowl. Police called the information in to the dispatcher.

Eichele was transported to UH Conneaut Medical Center by ambulance, the report said.

The owner of the ATV showed up on scene and confirmed that it was his ATV.
