Labor Day may have been the unofficial last day of summer, but it was not the end of road construction in northeast Ohio.
Holiday travelers and residents enjoyed partly sunny skies and 77-degree temperatures on their last holiday of the summer season.
Here’s a list of some of the construction projects that are still ongoing in our area, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation:
n Interstate 90 — There’s a crossover section on I-90 between Route 11 and Route 193 in which one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes are traveling on the eastbound side of I-90. One westbound lane will continue to travel on the westbound side. Plymouth Ridge Road over I-90 is closed through late October for bridge work. A detour is posted.
n Route 20 — The north end of Woodman Avenue, at Route 20 by Evans Dry Cleaning, is closed as part of a $2.9 million road-widening project. The project will widen Route 20 from Woodman Avenue in Ashtabula to North Bend Road in Saybrook Township.
Next spring and early summer, ODOT will place the top layer of asphalt on the road. The project is expected to be completed in September 2011, and when complete, Route 20 will have two wider lanes in each direction.
n Interstate 90 in Lake County — Because of construction, I-90 traffic is maintained with two lanes in each direction utilizing temporary crossovers. The Madison exit is one lane. The entire project reconstructs pavement on I-90 between Paine Road and the Ashtabula County line.
n Interstate 77 in Cuyahoga County — The I-77 South exit to Route 82 East is closed. Motorists should use Miller Road as an alternate.
ODOT officials said all businesses and residences are accessible during the construction phase.
