JEFFERSON —
Commissioners are moving forward with their plan to study the feasibility of a mutual public safety dispatching center for Ashtabula County.
The board unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday authorizing a request for qualifications be issued to interested consulting firms. The board last week rolled out its plan during a meeting with fire, police and government officials from affected communities.
There are six public safety answering points in Ashtabula County. Commissioners want a professional assessment of the existing system to determine if greater efficiency and cost savings would be possible through consolidation.
The quotes from those bidding on the project will be opened March 14.
In other action, the board:
• Set 1:30 p.m. Tuesdaye for the first public hearing on the county’s application for Community Development Block Grant funds for 2014 projects. The county is eligible to apply for approximately $300,000 in program funds and $400,000 in Community Housing Improvement Program funds.
