JEFFERSON —
Owners of property along Linwood Drive in Saybrook Township soon will be able to pull permits to tap into the new sewer line.
Larry Meaney, director of the Ashtabula County Department of Environmental Services, met with commissioners on Thursday to update them on the Linwood and Austinburg sewers projects. He said the board has been asked to pass next week a resolution accepting the Linwood Drive sewers. Then property owners will receive letters directing them to obtain their connection permits.
Twenty-four parcels are affected, but Meaney said some owners have multiple parcels, so he estimated the number of property owners at 15.
A second letter, setting a deadline for tapping into the 700-foot-long line, will be sent out by the Ashtabula County Health Department. Yet another letter to be issued at a future date will state the assessment amount. Meaney said the exact amount has not been calculated, but it should be lower than original estimates because the project cost of $115,273 was below the $134,000 original estimate.
Last fall, the assessment was pegged at about $4,500 per parcel, based on the $134,000 estimate. Certification won’t occur in time for the assessment to hit this year’s tax bills, due next year.
Meanwhile, 18 Austinburg Township property owners have already obtained permits to tap into the new, mandated system there. Meaney said there are about 80 affected property owners. While the system has some users, including the new elementary school, unresolved issues with paving restoration linger.
