28,000 powerless late Wednesday and early Thursday

Approximately 28,000 households were without power late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning after a malfunction at the Sanborn substation of the Illuminating Company, said Chad Self, manager of external affairs.

Computers and automatic teller machines were just a few of the ways people were inconvenienced Thursday as people woke to find alarm clocks blinking and ATM machines not working properly.

Self said three separate incidents occurred during a period of about an hour and a half. He said the first incident occurred a bit before midnight Wednesday and power was restored within 50 minutes.

He said the second incident occurred about 1:07 a.m. Thursday and it took 20 minutes to restore power. Self said a third incident occurred about 20 minutes after that and power was quickly restored.
