Buckeye BOE accepts personnel resignations

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —  Following an executive session Tuesday evening, the Buckeye Local Board of Education conditionally accepted the resignation of Elizabeth Gray, a school nurse.

Gray, who was nurse at Ridgeview Elementary and Braden Junior High schools last year, resigned effective at the end of the school year. But the challenge of finding a person to fill the vacancy sent the board into executive session to discuss the matter prior to voting.

Board President Jacqueline Hillyer said the board voted to accept the resignation “contingent upon finding a suitable replacement.”

“It was very difficult to fill last year,” Hillyer said of the position, which is not full time. “We want to make sure we are not without the necessary services (when school starts next month.)”

In other personnel action Tuesday, the board accepted the retirement of Gary Card, who has served the district for 22 years. Card, a skilled maintenance worker, will retire effective Oct. 1.

Concurrent with that retirement, the board approved a revised job description for the job filled by Card.

The board accepted the resignation of Lance Hostetler, an intervention specialist at Edgewood Senior High. The resignation was effective at the end of the school year.

The board also recognized as informational items the resignations of Kathleen Grendel, intervention specialist at Edgewood, and Lori Baruffa, intervention specialist at Braden. The women were hired through the Ashtabula County Educational Service Center.

A special meeting to accept the ratified contract with the Buckeye Education Association is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 13 at Braden. The membership will vote Aug. 10.
