PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP — A Painesville woman was arrested after she admitted taking several rings from the home of her family and stepmother, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies charged Hali Dunbar, 18, with burglary and felony theft in connection with the crime. Charges are pending against her 22-year-old boyfriend, an Ashtabula man who reportedly assisted Dunbar commit the theft.
Deputies were initially contacted on Thursday about the theft of rings valued at $1,600 from a Plymouth Township home on Plymouth Brown Road. When questioned by investigators, Dunbar admitted taking the rings on March 3, according to reports.
Dunbar told deputies she entered the house through an unlocked door and made for a room where jewelry was stored in a box. With the help of an accomplice, she removed a handful of rings.
Deputies said the pair took the rings to a nearby pawn shop and sold them for $90. They used the money to buy drugs and gasoline, according to reports.
Deputies trying to track down the rings were told by the pawn shop operator that the jewelry was sent to another store in northeast Ohio. That second store will be contacted, deputies said.
