JEFFERSON — The pending departure of Ashtabula County’s economic development guru shouldn’t derail commercial projects now under way, according to reports.
Joseph Mayernick, who will step down as director of Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County in mid-June, said plans are in place to complete projects presently in the pipeline.
“We won’t lose any opportunities,” Mayernick said Friday.
It was announced Thursday that Mayernick will resign after nearly 20 years at the helm of the organization. He has been the only director Growth Partnership has known.
A handful of projects are in various stages of development, but none will be affected by the transition, Mayernick said. He declined to elaborate on specific projects.
“Some will come to a conclusion between now and then,” he said. “We’ll detail some decisions over the next three months.”
For more long-term projects, staff will be on the job to see them to a successful conclusion, Mayernick said.
“People will be in the process to assure we do not lose any opportunities,” he said.
Growth Partnership’s board of trustees already has begun the search for Mayernick’s successor, according to Susan Stocker, board president. The board won’t rush the job, Stocker said.
“We’re going to wait until we have the right person,” she said in a statement. “If we don’t have the right person by the time he leaves, we’ll keep looking.”
Mayernick said he has no immediate plans nailed down after leaving GP.
“I’m going to sit back and assess everything,” he said Friday.
Mayernick said he enjoyed the challenges and the successes during his two decades with the organization.
“I’m leaving on very, very good terms,” he said.
