ASHTABULA —
It’s time for Lakeside Dragons to get fired up.
Lakeside High School’s sixth annual Homecoming parade will kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday on Main Avenue in downtown Ashtabula.
The Homecoming king and queen candidates will be showcased during the parade.
Queen candidates are Teyonna Vaux, Ashley Vazquez, Quimani Harris, Laura Cray, Ashley Buhl, Emily Kist, Paige Halsey and Jamie Azbill.
King candidates are Ryan Towner, Otis Conel, Nick Senita, Bryce McMullen, Michael Steen, Devyn Blackmore, Devin Dioneff, Russell Hanhilammi and Xavior Wells.
The Lakeside High School Marching Band, under the direction of Joseph Tredent, will march and play school pep songs.
The school’s majorettes and flag corps will be there, as well as the cheerleaders, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Baton Corps, classic cars, floats, Wildfire Dance Co., Lakeside choir, midget football players, police cars and fire trucks.
“Show your Dragon pride and wear green and gold,” said Raena Sidbeck, a teacher in the Ashtabula Area City School District. “The homecoming parade on Main Avenue has become a tradition.”
The parade will end at Lance Cpl. Kevin M. Cornelius Memorial Park and a pep rally will follow in the gazebo. Coaches and football players will speak to the crowd.
Ashtabula Area City Schools, as well as community groups, were encouraged to enter floats in the parade.
For decades, the parade route went from the high school on West 44th Street to Guarnieri Field off West Avenue, but when the new high school was built on Sanborn Road in Saybrook Township, Tredent came up with the idea of having a parade on Main Avenue.
Merchants welcomed the opportunity to bring more people downtown.
