Ramps at I-90, Route 7 to reopen

Drainage repair required in Conneaut

CONNEAUT — Some Interstate 90 entrance and exit ramps at Route 7, shut down all week, should reopen today, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The ramps dealing with westbound traffic were closed Monday because of “emergency drainage repair,” said Brent Kovacs, ODOT District 4 spokesman. Contractors were confident the ramps would be back in business today, he said.

The shutdown also closed down the truck weigh scale and tourist information center just inside the Ohio line, which serves westbound traffic, according to the District 4 website. The project is part of a $46 million overhaul of I-90 that began in the spring and will continue through 2013. All four lanes of I-90, between Conneaut Creek and the Pennsylvania line, are being rebuilt as part of the overhaul.

Meanwhile, work on bridges above South Ridge and Furnace Roads has encountered complications and won’t be finished until mid-November, Kovacs said. Portions of the roads beneath the bridge have been closed since early March. At the time, ODOT anticipated the roads would reopen within 60 days.

The bridges, as part of the project are being widened and given new decks, Kovacs said. As a result, the work has taken “more time than anticipated,” he said.

Work on the Route 7 bridge is nearing completion and barriers to control traffic have been removed. Police blamed the barriers for obstructing the view of motorists and causing some traffic accidents.

Aside from the South Ridge and Furnace road bridge projects, the rest of the project is proceeding on schedule, Kovacs said.
