A man told sheriff deputies Sunday he actually was looking for his dog when he approached a 9-year-old girl last week, Sheriff William Johnson said.
The phone call was sparked my media reports of a man stopping a girl on Dickenson Road Oct. 17 in Ashtabula Township. He appeared suspicious and the girl told an adult who called police.
The man said he kept going and eventually found his dog.
Johnson said the sheriff’s department is conferring with other law enforcement agencies to see if similar incidents have occurred .
The man was described as a white maile in his 30s, with a mustache.
The man did not make contact with the girl or seek to have her enter his vehicle which was described as a black or dark blue Durango, Johnson said.
He said the girl did the right thing when she went to tell an adult relative what happened.
ACSD Lt. Terry Moisio said it is important that children not talk to strangers.
“Basically you give a description of that person and tell an adult,” he said.
