PAINESVILLE —
Deliberations will continue Monday in Danna Weimer's murder trial, as the jury failed to return a verdict Friday in Lake County Common Pleas Court.
The 12-member jury must review seven days of testimony from more than 30 state's witnesses, along with hundreds of items of physical evidence including stolen jewelry, household items, forensic trace evidence, and drug paraphernalia.
Weimer, 54, of Austinburg Township, faces 17 charges — ranging from aggravated murder and aggravated burglary to tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property in the brutal murder of 77-year-old Madison Township resident Eleanor Robertson in June.
Robertson was found dead in her Canterbury Drive home by Madison Township police on June 13, the victim of an apparent burglary.
She was bludgeoned to death and had 94 puncture wounds across her body, Lake County Coroner Lynn Smith said. Robertson’s body had been burned or doused with chemicals and was found under layers of clothing and a mattress.
Weimer’s son, Zachary Weimer, 22, of Geneva faces the same 17 counts as his mother. His trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 13.
While there is no physical evidence linking Danna Weimer with the murder and burglary scene, Lake County assistant prosecutor Mark Bartolotta said Danna’s complicity in the crimes make her just as guilty as her son, whose footprints clearly place him at Robertson’s Madison Township home at the time of the murder.
The jury will reconvene at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Judge Eugene A. Lucci said.
