PAINESVILLE —
The prosecution did not rest as expected Wednesday in Danna Weimer’s murder trial, as the jury heard hours of testimony and viewed police interviews of the defendant.
The jury did hear the cryptic contents of Zachary and Danna Weimer’s text messages to each other on the day of Eleanor Robertson’s murder and the day after as they attempted to sell the dead woman’s stolen property even before her body was found buried under clothing and a mattress in her Madison Township home on June 13.
The jury viewed video surveillance recordings from Danna Weimer’s own home that shows Danna and Zachary coming and going, Zachary in Robertson’s still-missing Plymouth Voyager van. The cameras also captured the mother-and-son pair loading Danna Weimer’s car with Robertson’s stolen items, including jewelry, household goods and china.
Danna Weimer is being held on $1 million bond and faces life in prison if convicted of all 17 charges against her, including aggravated murder and burglary. She is charged as a co-defendant with her son, 22-year-old Zachary Weimer, in the death of 77-year-old Robertson, who was stabbed 94 times in an apparent burglary.

Danna and Zachary Weimer were caught attempting to sell Robertson’s jewelry at a cash-for-gold business in Euclid on June 13.
The prosecution may call one last witness today before resting. Defense attorney Aaron Baker said he does not plan to call any witnesses on behalf of his client, though that could change.
Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene Lucci said he will present jury members with 36 pages of jury instructions following the closing arguments today.
“This is a circumstantial case that requires a lot of connecting the dots,” he said.
