ASHTABULA —
The Ashtabula County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its third annual Ride for the Red on July 21. One of two major fundraisers conducted by the chapter, proceeds benefit disaster services with all money raised used to provide service within Ashtabula County. The ride will begin and end at the Tourist Pavilion (upper pavilion) at Lakeshore Park, Route 531 Lake Road East, Ashtabula. While the ride is traditionally a motorcycle event, all vehicles are welcome and encouraged to participate. The public is encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities.
Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. with the first vehicle out about 10:30 a.m. The ride is coordinated and led by the Concerned Motorcyclists Riding in Ohio region 13. This group has a long-standing history of support of the Ashtabula County Chapter of the Red Cross through this and other events.
Registration fee is $15 for a single and $25 per couple which includes food and beverage, and music throughout the day. A special Ride for the Red T-shirt will be given to those who preregister while supply lasts. A mini auction will be held with several donated items including a lottery tree. A special raffle will be held for $2500 worth of custom paint work donated by Ohio Technical College. Tickets for the custom paint work will be available at the chapter house during regular business hours now through the end of July with drawing held on August 1. Each ride registrant is automatically entered in a drawing to win a bed-and-breakfast package for two at the Geneva Lodge and Conference Center; additional chances to win this weekend getaway may be purchased the day of the ride. Vendors will have displays set up and anyone wishing to participate is encouraged to contact the co-chairs of this year’s event, Bill or Maria Abbott at 992-1176 for a no-cost table space.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be on site 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to stop and make a donation. Sponsors of the Ride for the Red this year include Cristal Global Corporation, APL Electric, the Star Beacon, RLP Consulting, Yuengling Beer, Ziegler heating, Grand River Rubber, Ashtabula County Medical Center, Geneva Lodge and Conference Center, and Ohio Technical College.
Registration forms are available at Ashtabula County Chapter, 433 Center St. or at ashtabula.redcross.org. While riders are encouraged to preregister, registrations will be accepted the morning of the ride.
