Fire destroys barn in Austinburg

AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — Firefighters from three area departments were unable to save a barn Sunday morning at Sexton Road and Clay Street, said Austinburg Assistant Fire Chief Todd Dutton.

“It was a fully involved barn fire,” Dutton said as crews arrived at 6:30. He said there weren’t any animals.

Dutton did not release the name of the owner of the barn but said nobody was hurt. He said some snowmobiles were in the barn and some personal items.

Dutton said there were about 30 firefighters on the scene from Austinburg, Harpersfield and Geneva fire departments. He said Northeastern Ambulance District also responded to the scene.

Firefighters remained on the scene for more than 3 1/2 hours, Dutton said. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and nobody was injured while fighting the fire.
