ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —
More than 40 exhibitors were greeted by area residents getting ready for spring Saturday at the Ashtabula County Home Show that continues today from noon to 5 p.m.
Businesses from all over northeastern Ohio, ranging from health food to lawn tractors, are highlighted throughout Ashtabula Towne Square where vendors reported brisk traffic Saturday.
Jerry Schlesinger, vice president of Ohio State Waterproofing of Macedonia, said he was shocked by how many people attended the show and wanted to talk. “They are getting ready for spring clean-up and fixing up,” he said.
The show is sponsored by chambers of commerce throughout Ashtabula County.
Kathy Holmes, of the Rock Creek Chamber of Commerce, said organizers have been meeting since at least January to coordinate the event.
“It seems like it came together (well),” said Holmes of a large amount of exhibitors deciding to come to the show during the last several weeks.
“It’s been steady,” said Justin Stroeter, a mechanic at the Great Outdoors Store, while showing off a lawn tractor.
“Just came to check things out,” said Brian Bourdeau of Ashtabula.
There were a variety of booths providing services including landscaping, window installation and new home construction to name a few.
Meanwhile a group of corn-hole enthusiasts were gathering for an indoor tournament.
“I came out here and stayed all night,” joked Jeff Buchans of Rock Creek when he was the first one to show up for the tournament.
Buchans was looking to knock the rust off his game. “I haven’t played in a while. This is the first time in six months,” he said.
“This is a part of the Midwest Corn Hole Tour,” said Shawn Burns of the Morgan Hose Fire Department that helped organize the tournament.
He said the winner will earn a spot in a larger region-wide tournament.
