JEFFERSON — As expected, tax issues will fill the ballot for the May 4 primary election, according to the Ashtabula County Board of Elections.
The money matters range the gamut from school levies to road/bridge and fire issues. Also on the ballot is a request to switch Pierpont Township from the Buckeye school district to the Pymatuning Valley school district.
The only local candidate contest on the primary ballot comes in the Ohio 99th District, where one Republican will rise from among five hopefuls for the right to challenge incumbent State Rep. Deborah Newcomb in November. The Republicans are Ryan Bailey (Jefferson), Tim Byers and Robert Tarasiak (Conneaut), Casey Kozlowski (Pierpont) and Jason Shippy (Ashtabula).
Also in November, incumbent County Commissioner Joe Moroski, a Republican, will be opposed by Democrat candidate Thomas Hunt of Andover; and County Auditor Roger Corlett (Democrat) will face Roy Brommer of Roaming Shores, a Republican.
The county-wide levies include a construction issue for the Joint Vocational School and a proposed sales tax to help the county’s general fund.

n Andover Village — Government electricity aggregation program with opt-out provisions
n Ashtabula — 1.8 percent renewal for income tax, city operations (three years)
n Ashtabula County — 0.5 percent sales tax increase to assist the county’s general fund (five years)
n Colebrook Township — 1-mill renewal, parks and recreation (five years)
n Colebrook Township — 1-mill renewal, operating expenses (five years)
n Grand Valley School District — 1.55-mills renewal, improvements (five years)
n Monroe Township — 2-mills additional, fire department (five years)
n Monroe Township — 1.5-mills renewal, roads and bridges (five years)
n Pymatuning Valley School District — 6.98-mills additional, emergency requirements (five years)
n Geneva-on-the-Lake — Income tax increase from 1.0 to 1.5 percent, city operations
n Ashtabula Area School District — 4.9-mills additional, current expenses
n Saybrook Township — 2.75-mills renewal, roads and bridges (five years)
n Geneva — Sunday liquor sales, Community Center
n Ashtabula County Library District — 1.25-mill additional, operating services (five years)
n Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School — 0.61-mill bond issue, school construction (25 years)
n Lenox Township — 0.5-mill renewal, fire (five years)
n n Ledgemont School District — 1.25-mill additional, income tax, current operating expenses (five years)
n Jefferson School District — 3-mill renewal, current operating expenses (five years)
n Conneaut — 1-mill renewal, emergency/fire (five years)
n Conneaut — Sunday liquor sales, Precinct 1C (Clark gas station)
n Conneaut — Sunday liquor sales, Precinct 4B (Biscotti’s Restaurant)
n School district property transfer — Pierpont Township from Buckeye to Pymatuning Valley school districts
n Ashtabula Township — 1 mill additional, police services (four years)
