ASHTABULA — More folks than ever are expected to flock to the historic Ashtabula harbor this summer, thanks to the hard work of the Lift Bridge Community Association.
In addition to repeating two new festivals — the Beach Glass and the Wine & Walleye festivals — the group plans to add an OctoberFest and a Bridge-to-Bridge Run, said Ren Carlisle, president of the association and co-owner of Carlisle’s Home in the Harbor.
“We have made substantial progress in becoming a major regional destination,” he said. “We have more good places to eat, drink and shop, exciting events ... beautiful hanging plants, landscaping and a walking tour brochure of Historic Lower Bridge Street.”
This year, the Lift Bridge Community Association is moving forward with a very aggressive plan, which includes:
n Two new events;
n Dedication of a State Historic Marker in late spring near the Lift Bridge;
n Building plaques, which will tell the history of each historic building;
n Bicycle racks,
n A visitors’ center in the existing Blue Goose Gift Shoppe.
