City man dies from injuries suffered in Feb. 9 crash

COLEBROOK TOWNSHIP — A 20-year-old Ashtabula man died Monday and his 17-year-old friend remains in serious condition as a result of injuries suffered in a two-car accident Feb. 9 on Route 322, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.

Robert Reho Jr. died at Cleveland Metro Hospital, Lt. Mike Harmon of Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Darren Smith, also of Ashtabula, remains hospitalized, he said.

The crash occurred on a snowy evening at about 6:30 p.m. when Reho lost control of his eastbound vehicle and drove “left of center,” Harmon said. Reho’s vehicle hit a pickup truck driven by John Sirrine, 41, of Rome, OHP Trooper Jason Hayes has said. The truck then hit the passenger-side door of Reho’s vehicle, where Smith was sitting, according to OHP reports.

“Both vehicles continued off the north side of the road into the ditch,” Hayes has said.

Sirrine was not injured seriously, reports show.

Rescue workers had to extricate Reho and Smith from the vehicle, and then they were transported by ambulance to UH-Geauga Medical Center, Hayes said.
