ASHTABULA —
City police continue to investigate a fatal shooting as they peruse evidence gleaned from a west side home.
Authorities say more than 20 bullets and other evidence were retrieved earlier this week from 918 W. 37th St., where a man was fatally shot in the neck Sept. 30 during a shoot out.
Dawaun Davis, 22, of Youngstown died of a single gunshot to the neck, said Richard Mongell, the Ashtabula County coroner’s chief investigator.
Davis also was known as “DJ,” according to his obituary in the Youngstown Vindicator.
Police believe the incident started at about 6 p.m. Saturday when Davis and another man walked into the West 37th Street home and opened fire, according to police reports.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a 20-year-old man with two bullet wounds to the leg, one to the hip and one to the buttocks, witnesses said.
“They went into the home and opened fire,” a witness said. “They knew (the man with the four bullet wounds) was there.”
Davis was found nearby on West 38th Street minutes later.
The man with the gunshot wounds to the leg and buttocks was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he was treated and has since been released, sources said.
Police refuse to release further details of the incident because it is still under investigation.
