AUBURN, N.Y. —
A former Ashtabula County resident will be sentenced next month after admitting he strangled his estranged girlfriend in her Auburn, N.Y., home, in 2011, reportedly while their small child slept a short distance away, according to news reports.
David McNamara, 35, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a Cayuga County, N.Y., court last month, and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 23, syracuse.com reported. He is facing 20 years to life in prison, according to the website.
McNamara is a 1995 graduate of Pymatuning Valley High School, according to reports.
The body of Katie Socci, 29, a nurse who worked at a Syracuse, N.Y., hospital, was found on the west side of Auburn on June 15, 2011. McNamara, ex-boyfriend of Socci and father of her young child, was the only suspect, Chris Valdina, assistant district attorney, told syracuse.com.
The motive Valdina told syracuse.com, was “romantic jealousy.”
In the fall of 2011, McNamara was sentenced to five years in prison and two years of post-release supervisor after pleading guilty to charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal sale of a controlled substance, according to reports.
McNamara and Socci met several years ago while both were nurses in Rochester, N.Y., syracuse.com reported. At one point, the pair were planning to be married, according to reports.
