’Bula man accused of holding, raping woman for three days

ASHTABULA —

A 19-year-old man, who police say kidnapped and raped a teen girl for three days, was arrested late Sunday in a Station Avenue apartment, Ashtabula Police Lt. John Koski said.
The man, whose name will not be disclosed until after his arraignment today in Municipal Court, is charged with aggravated rape, a first-degree felony; kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and trespassing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, Koski said.
He is accused of taking a 19-year-old girl against her will to a location for the purpose of raping her repeatedly for three days, Koski said.
“The girl managed to escape Sunday and gave police a detailed interview,” he said. “She was also treated at the hospital.”
The Ashtabula Regional SWAT team met, organized, and at 10:12 p.m. Sunday, surrounded and raided an apartment at 3337 Station Ave., Koski said.
Law enforcement officers found the suspect and arrested him without incident, he said.
The suspect remains in the city jail awaiting his arraignment.
“He’s no stranger to the criminal justice system,” Koski said, noting that sometimes such crimes involving young girls have a much different outcome if the girl is not able to get away.
Ashtabula Police Lt. Rodney Blaney worked hard on the case and is to be commended, Koski said.
