Broken-down truck results in drug arrest

JEFFERSON —  An Ashtabula County sheriff’s deputy coming to the aid of a disabled pickup truck early Wednesday night discovered the vehicle was carrying supplies used to make methamphetamine, deputies report.

The driver, Joseph E. Dodick, 24, 865 State Road, Geneva, was wanted on meth-related warrants. While preparing the vehicle to be towed, deputies discovered a variety of meth-making supplies among debris in the truck’s cab and bed, deputies said.

A deputy on patrol shortly before 7 p.m. noticed a vehicle stopped on State Road, just north of Cork Cold Springs Road, in Harpersfield Township. The driver, later identified as Dodick, told the deputy the clutch became stuck. The driver was eventually able to move the truck a short distance to the driveway of a State Road house, where the man said he lived.

The man denied he was Joseph Dodick and gave the deputy another name. Deputies disagreed, and — unable to confirm Dodick actually lived at the State Road house — called for a tow truck. While taking inventory of the truck’s contents prior to hauling it away, deputies found items they said are used to make the drug, according to a report.

In addition to the original warrants, Dodick faces other drug charges, as well as a falsification charge for trying to provide deputies incorrect information, the report states.
