JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP —
The body of an adult male was found in the Lampson Reservoir on Wednesday evening, the Jefferson Emergency Rescue District reports.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 5 p.m. after a person who was with the man called for help, JERD reports show. Water-rescue crews from the Saybrook and Rome fire departments were put on standby but were canceled when the man’s body was found, the Saybrook Township Fire Department confirmed.
JERD reports show the body was found in the water at Route 307 and Hickok Road. The death is being investigated by the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office investigators.
Representatives from the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department, and the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department were not available for comment regarding the body or the rescue efforts Wednesday evening.
“No Trespassing” signs are posted at the reservoir, and the water has been off-limits to the public for years, according to the Ashtabula County Parks Foundation.
The Lampson Reservoir is located on Route 307, three miles east of Route 45. The 22-acre lake was given to Ashtabula County and was sold in May to the Western Reserve Land Conservancy to be used as part of the Ashtabula County Metroparks System. The reservoir straddles Mill Creek, which is a major tributary to the Grand River.
