Garage blaze keeps firefighters busy in Rome
ROME TOWNSHIP β Firefighters from three volunteer fire departments battled a garage fire that destroyed a tractor, car and a motor cycle Sunday afternoon at 6088 Route 45, said Rome Fire Chief Ed Koziol.
At 2:59 p.m., Rome Township firefighters were called to the Mike Hovanick residence for a tractor fire, Koziol said. βOn arrival we found it was indeed on fire but it was inside a two-car garage that was also on fire,β he said.
Koziol said he called for backup from Orwell and Morgan Hose and the combined efforts of the firefighters were able to keep the fire from an adjacent structure. He said firefighters from Orwell and Morgan Hose provided water and extra manpower.
Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours, Koziol said. He said the owner was working on a tractor when an apparent backfire likely started the fire.
