ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Deputies hovered outside 3309 Dickinson Road late Friday night as investigators searched the home for evidence following a Christmas homicide.
Investigators, who are being tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the death, were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. Friday and found a 42- year-old resident dead at the scene, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department and the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office.
“I can confirm that there is a death. A 42-year-old man found at his home,” said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Jim Baehr.
“We’re not releasing too much,” Baehr said. He did say the death occurred some time Friday, but the time of death had not been pinpointed by Friday evening.
“The victim was sent to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy,” Baehr said. He said he expects preliminary results today.
“I was on the scene probably three and a half or four hours,” Baehr said.
Late Friday evening there were no suspects in custody, said Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lt. Van Robison. He said he had at least eight people working on the case, including detectives, road patrols and the crime scene investigators.
Van Robison said he didn’t believe the community needed to be concerned for their safety.
“At this point I don’t want to comment on what we think it might be,” he said.
Yellow crime tape was draped between trees in front of the home as investigators walked in and out of the two story structure. Van Robison said investigators would be on the scene till at least 10 p.m.
Van Robison and Baehr said they could not yet comment on what caused the death.
“All I can tell you was it was a family member that reported it,” Van Robison said. “Every open door we’re going in it to try and find out (what happened).”
