Monroe garage destroyed in blaze

MONROE TOWNSHIP — Three fire departments responded to a garage fire at 4981 State Road,

Monday evening.

Monroe Volunteer Fire Department Chief Justin Tuttle said his department, plus Conneaut and Pierpont Volunteer, responded to the blaze about 6 p.m. Sheffield was called but turned back.

The building was fully engulfed when the departments arrived.

The owner was identified as James Sargent, but the property is being rented by someone else.

Tuttle said he estimated damage to the building at about $8,000 and damage to contents, mostly go-carts and similar recreational items, between $3,000 and $4,000.

About 15 firefighters fought the blaze. There were no injuries to firefighters or the residents of the property.

Cause of the fire is being investigated.
