Fire damages Ashtabula Township home

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Cold temperatures and flames streaming from 734 Knollwood Dr. greeted firefighters Saturday as they arrived on the scene Saturday evening, said Ashtabula Township Assistant Fire Chief Tom Steele.

Firefighters were on the scene for more than an hour and were able to contain the damage to one room and its contents, Steele said. The fire was called in around 8:15 p.m.

Steele said he did not have the names, or number, of the occupants late Saturday night.

He said nobody was home at the time of the fire. A small group of people gathered and provided comfort to apparent residents who arrived at the home.

In addition to Ashtabula Township firefighters the Ashtabula Fire Department also provided a ladder truck and firefighters and an ambulance from Community Care was called to the scene.

The fire is still under investigation.
