Firefighters save North Kingsville house from garage fire

By WARREN DILLAWAY - Staff Writer

NORTH KINGSVILLE — A village family is lucky to have a home after a garage fire nearly spread to the residence at 3760 East Center St. around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, said North Kingsville Chief Brian Lehtonen.

When firefighters arrived at the home they found a fully involved garage fire and the siding melting off the home, Lehtonen said. He said they were able to hit the house with water and keep the house itself from catching on fire.

The garage, with a vehicle inside, was a total loss, Lehtonen said, but did not have any estimates as to the damages. Traffic was reduced to three lanes on Route 20 as firefighters fought the blaze.

Lehtonen said nobody was injured in the fire, but firefighters from North Kingsville, Kingsville Township, Ashtabula Township and Conneaut took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. He said there was plenty of water and no difficulties in fighting the fire.

“They are extremely lucky the house didn’t burn,” he said. Lehtonen said he didn’t have the names of the family whose garage burned.
