JEFFERSON — Three talented art students at Jefferson High School recently received cash awards for their efforts from representatives of Andover Bank.
“The art students entered their pictures for our contest to help us celebrate 125 years Andover Bank has served Ashtabula County, and our employees through anonymous votes chose our winners,” said Deanna Thompson, sales manager of the Andover Bank Financial Group in Jefferson, who was on hand with Danielle Smock, assistant manager of the Jefferson Andover Bank to give out the awards.
“There are three cash awards, $75 for first prize, $50 for second prize and $25 for third,” Smock said. “We had lots of compliments from the public while the pictures were displayed at the bank.”
First place winner Hannah Tripodi, senior, is an advanced placement (AP) art and art IV student whose inspiration for her painting came from her drive everyday to Kent State University Ashtabula where she is a post secondary education options student.
“There are lots of pretty soybean fields along Route 307,” Tripodi said. “The 1984 in the field is representative of the year Jefferson chose to highlight in our pictures.”
Second place winner Allie Rodney, senior, is an art II student and chose a scene near to her heart for her painting.
“In my painting I am riding one of the horses in front of our farm in Jefferson Township,” Rodney said.
Kelsey Febel, senior, and third place winner also chose a familiar scene: the covered bridge on Doyle Road.
“I felt it would be appropriate to paint a covered bridge because they are so important to our county,” she said.
High school art teacher Valerie Curie was thrilled with level of work her students provided for the contest.
“It’s really great to have our students rewarded in this way,” she said.
