JEFFERSON -- Open a Christmas storybook and be a part of the all- day holiday celebration in Jefferson on Saturday.
The Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce announces the 2009 theme “Storybook Christmas,” featuring activities at various points in Jefferson Village perfect for the whole family.
“The whole county is invited to celebrate with us,” said Pat Bradek, president of the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce. “There are going to be lots of new things this year and so many people have worked very hard to make this day something Jefferson can be proud of.”
Just some of the activities going on include a craft show, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring 50 crafters, at the Jefferson Community Center; the 17th Annual Merchants’ Streetlight Sale, noon to 5 p.m., featuring a live decorated tree giveaway at each of the 22 participating merchants; a grand prize drawing for a Christmas basket loaded with gifts and gift certificates from all participating merchants. Enter to win the basket from noon to 4:30 p.m. at any participating merchant. The basket is on display at the Sonshine Corner.
Boy Scout Troop 41 will be serving hot chocolate and selling hand warmers on the green by the Gazebo before the parade; The Jefferson High School Choir will sing at the Gazebo from 5:30 until the holiday lights are turned on at 6 p.m.; Mrs. Claus will be reading stories from noon to 2 p.m. in the Village Hall; rides with Santa will be available on the AC&J; Scenic Railroad, 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.; The Grand River Trailriders Snowmobile Club will have a display on the corner of East Jefferson St. and North Chestnut St., 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be horse-drawn wagon rides, noon to 4 p.m., with pickup at the corner of East Jefferson St., and North Chestnut St.; Jefferson Historical Society, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., presents “A Christmas Wonderland,” featuring animated toys in the sanctuary, kids’ activities, food and more; Jefferson Depot Village, 147 E. Jefferson St., will be hosting Williamsburg Christmas Party, 3 to 5 p.m., and Candlelight Christmas Walk, 5 to 6 p.m.; Christmas Parade with more than 40 units will begin at 6 p.m.; Hot chocolate with Santa at the Jefferson Community Center directly after the parade.
In addition to the usual events, the chamber has some new surprises planned this year. These include meet Nora the Live Reindeer on the Village Hall lawn at 3:15 p.m.; also at the Village Hall there will be Kid’s Craftmaking and Santa’s Shopping Shack from noon to 4 p.m., where kids can do Christmas shopping; and an ice carving demonstration by Tim Rios, and executive chef from Cleveland, at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the village green by the Community Center.
“There will be ‘snow’ better place for fun than Jefferson on Saturday,” Bradek said.
