APD adds two auxiliary officers

ASHTABULA — The Ashtabula Police Department swore two more men into the organization Wednesday.

A brief swearing-in ceremony was held for 29-year-old Kevin Senita of Monroe Township and 25-year-old Eloy Salinas of Jefferson at City Hall.

“It fulfills a childhood dream,” Senita said.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Salinas said being a police officer is an “honorable position to hold.”

City Manager Anthony Cantagallo performed the ceremony, and Chief Robert Stell held the Bible. Afterward, Stell said he believes both men are real stand-up guys and they will do a great job.

“They are enthusiastic about law enforcement,” he said. “They are the kind of guys (we) want to represent the department and the city.”

Salinas and Senita are graduates of Kent State University’s police academy and will serve the APD as auxiliary police officers, said Sgt. John Koski, who also attended the ceremony with his canine partner, Adrian.

“(Being an auxiliary police officer) is good experience,” Senita said.

The newcomers bring the department up to 30 full-time officers and 13 auxiliary officers, Stell said.
