Former Conneaut councilman charged in restaurant incident

CONNEAUT — A former Conneaut councilman cited after a confrontation in a local restaurant will have a pretrial hearing next month in Conneaut Municipal Court, according to court documents.

Ronald Maki, 68, 317 Jefferson St., has been charged with aggravated menacing, stemming from an incident in August at the McDonald’s Restaurant on State Street. A pretrial hearing has been set for 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, a court spokeswoman said.

On Aug. 19, a restaurant employee called police to report Maki used coarse language to a woman during an argument over tickets for a Democrat steak fry. The argument, joined by the woman’s husband, began in the restaurant’s lobby and carried over into the parking lot, police said.

One week later, the woman called to make a formal complaint, police said. The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Maki served a term on council during the mid 1990s.
