Fewer to review Geneva architecture

GENEVA — In a meeting with no official business and no unfinished business on the agenda, City Council listened Monday as Architectural Review Board chairman Todd Nagy offered the only report of the evening.

Nagy said the Geneva ARB’s members are dwindling, leaving just himself and Assistant City Manager Jennifer Brown to oversee the city’s architectural code.

“We are in need of board members,” he said, “but they are hard to come by. We need a person with a background in historic renovation and rehabilitation.”

With board members scarce, Nagy said he hopes Council will consider absorbing the ARB into the Planning Commission, a merger that would create “ a one-stop-shop for developers.

“That way, many things can be decided in just one night, instead of a developer going to this meeting and another meeting,” Nagy said.

Councilman Bill Buskirk said he supports the idea.

“It makes a lot of sense to me,” he said. “But I would like to see examples of how other municipalities handle this sort of combining boards. ”

Also, Geneva City Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
