CONNEAUT — Conneaut’s city manager is one of 36 applicants for a vacant administrative position in the city of Pickerington.
Ironically, Robert Schaumleffel Jr., is a candidate for the job once held by former Conneaut City Manager Tim Hansley, who was fired last month by Pickerington’s City Council, according to a story published Wednesday by ThisWeek Community Newspapers.
The article lists all applicants for the Pickerington post, and Schaumleffel’s name appears on the list. Schaumleffel is attending a seminar related to a brownfield grant obtained by Conneaut and was unavailable for comment.
News of Schaumleffel’s interest in the Pickerington job comes just a few weeks after it was learned he was an unsuccessful candidate for Mentor city manager. When news of his application became public in early October, Schaumleffel said turmoil at City Hall was one of the factors.
“I thought I had obligations to myself and my family, especially after the past four months,” he said at the time.
Schaumleffel came to Conneaut in December 2008 and is the fourth Conneaut city manager since charter government began in 2002. He hopes to succeed Hansley, who was Conneaut’s second city manager.
Hansley served 14 months in Conneaut, resigning at the end of January 2004. He worked 17 months as Pickerington city manager and earned $105,000 a year.
Pickerington is located a short distance east of Columbus.
