Commissioners approve leet safety policy extension

JEFFERSON — Ashtabula County commissioners approved a fleet safety policy Thursday, officially extending the working environment of county employees to the vehicles they operate.

The policy, developed by Lori Larson, risk manager for the county, is a requirement for compliance with the County Risk Sharing Authority incentive program. CORSA is a property and liability pool established by the County Commissioners Association of Ohio in 1987. The county participates in the self-funded pool.

The program requires full cooperation of drivers to operate their vehicle safely and adhere to the responsibilities outlined in the policy. The policy covers both county-owned vehicles and personnel vehicles used for county business.

In other action, commissioners:

n Approved an agreement with Bleckman and Associates of North Canton to provided professional assistance and technical advice in administering and implementing its Community Housing Improvement Program.

The cost is not to exceed $33,225;

n Approved a contract for professional services with CT Consultants of Willoughby to provide technical assistance with the grant money the county and city of Geneva will receive from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Cost is not to exceed $48,000.

n Approved an agreement with Trumbull Township for participation in the emergency management program for Ashtabula County. The agreement is for two years at an annual cost of $1.

n Authorized the sale of five vehicles from the County Highway Department. The vehicles will be offered on the county’s online auction site, www.ashtabulacountyohioauctions.com.
