The Cleveland Browns may not be winning on the football field, but fans are kicking butt in Orwell.
Browns fans and Steelers fans are going head-to-head in a food collecting competition at Keystone Rehabilitation Systems in Orwell as part of a company-wide collection drive for local food banks, Orwell and Geneva facility director Jenn Diehl said.
“Our boss challenged us to find unique ways to collect food,” Diehl said. “So the Orwell office pitted Browns fans and Steelers fans against each other and the Geneva office has the over 50 year olds and the under 50 year olds going head-to-head in a generational competition.”
Diehl said the food drive is a runaway success.
“In one week we have collected 250 cans from those two offices alone,” she said. “We are collecting so much food.”
Diehl said the over-F50 set is winning, hands down at the Geneva physical therapy office.
“Whatever the challenge is, it is great to see the giving nature of everyone,” she said. “With each handful of food brought in there comes a story explaining how they have been helped in the past and want to help others.”
Diehl said the food drive was started to help the local food banks, including the Conneaut and Geneva food pantries and the Country Neighbor program, during the holiday season.
“With the economy how it is, the food banks have informed up that they are in desperate need of food. More and more people with financial troubles are seeking their help. This is our way of giving thanks for our blessings and helping others,” she said.
Diehl said anyone can stop in at any one of Keystone Rehabilitation Systems four Ashtabula County offices to donate food or toiletries.
Keystone Rehabilitation Systems is located in Geneva on Route 534 in Geneva, across from the Giant Eagle store; in Orwell at Route 322 and School Street across from the Orwell Public Library; in Ashtabula on Route 20 across the street from the Ashtabula Towne Square; and on Route 20 in Conneaut behind Perkins Restaurant.
