Crash survivor leaves Ore. hospital

GENEVA — The 18-year-old bible college student involved in a fatal crash in Oregon was released from the hospital Tuesday after suffering a bruised lung and spleen.

Katie Pischura, of Geneva, was injured Thursday and her brother, 20-year-old Joshua Pischura, was killed when the 15-passenger van they were riding in slid on black ice and flipped multiple times, the Associated Press reports.

The son and daughter of New Life Assembly of God Pastor Harry Pischura, Katie and Joshua Pischura attended the Rocky Mountain Masters Commission in Colorado.

Thirteen of the van’s 16 occupants — who ranged between 18 and 26 years old and are from various parts of the country — ßwere ejected in the crash.

Joshua Pischura and Taune Nicole Winter Pepper, 23, of Deer Trail, Colo. both died after being taken to area hospitals, the Associated Press reports.

New Life Assembly of God church deacon Jim Klco said Rev. Harry Pischura and his wife, Dawn, are in Oregon with their daughter and plan to attend a memorial service for the students at the bible school in Colorado before returning home. He also said one of the Pischura sisters, who lives in Hawaii, will not be able to return to Ohio until after Thanksgiving, so Joshua’s funeral may be held then.

“We have come together as a congregation to support (the Pischura) family in any and every way we can,” Klco said.

“We are a very tight-knit church group,” Klco said. “We held a prayer service Thursday night and we had a wonderful and bonding experience reflecting on Josh and what he means to us.”

Klco the church has established the “Memorial Fund for the Pischura Family” at Andover Bank. Donations can be made at any Andover Bank branch.

The church’s weekly 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday worship services are open to the public, Klco said.
