SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — A 13-year-old Lakeside Junior High School student will be charged with assault after he reportedly choked another boy into unconsciousness during a gym class Thursday morning, according to an Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department report.
The victim, also 13, passed out and fell on the gym floor, striking his head, deputies said. The boy was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center by Saybrook Township ambulance personnel. There he was treated for a mild concussion, deputies said. He returned to school the following day, according to a report.
A school surveillance video showed the suspect placing his hand on or about the neck of the victim, deputies said. The alleged assailant told deputies he didn’t intend to harm the boy. The suspect, who lives in Ashtabula, was suspended from school 10 days and faces expulsion, deputies said.
