MADISON — A 20-year-old Madison man, following a court appearance Monday, allegedly stabbed two men in a Madison apartment early Thursday morning, police and court records show.
The suspect, Robert Calkins, of Madison fled the scene at 3 a.m. and was arrested by Geneva police officers when he entered UH-Geneva Medical Center for the treatment of a laceration 40 minutes later, Geneva police dispatch records show.
Village Police Chief Dawn Shannon said the victims were stabbed in an apartment at 104 W. Main St.
One victim was transported to Geneva Medical Center for treatment of “more severe wounds” and then was transferred by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Shannon said.
“(The man) was sitting up and talking to police officers this morning,” Shannon said. “The second victim was treated at the scene and released.”
Shannon said Calkins is being held in the Lake County Jail and will be arraigned today in Painesville Municipal Court.
“At some point (Calkins) was injured, but we aren’t sure how or when,” Shannon said. “The case is still under investigation at this time. We are not entirely sure what happened yet.”
Shannon declined to release the names of the victims, one from Geneva and one from Madison Township, and specific information about the weapon was not available.
Calkins was arrested Sunday for underage consumption of alcohol, Painesville Municipal Court records show, and also was detained on a warrant from a misdemeanor menacing charge, issued in May. Calkins was arraigned on the charges — both past and present — Monday and posted a $250 bond Tuesday. He is due back in court Monday for a pretrial hearing, court records show.
