KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP — Carole Lee Vanek, longtime fiscal officer for Kingsville Township, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness, said Dennis Huey, township trustees’ chairman.
Vanek, 66, served 23 years as the township’s fiscal officer, said Charles Page, a former trustee and Vanek’s uncle. She began her duties in October 1986, he said.
Trustees will convene a special meeting at 7 p.m. today at the fire hall on Main Street to discuss Vanek’s replacement, Huey said.
Vanek’s illness did not prevent her from dutifully attending to township business and chronicling trustees meetings, officials agreed.
“The board is deeply saddened at the passing of a faithful public servant to the community of Kingsville for several years,” Huey said.
Vanek took her duties seriously and was always community-minded, Page said.
“She put her heart into the job,” he said. “She sincerely believed in doing the job right.”
Trustee Doug Reed said he worked with Vanek for 10 years.
“When I first became a trustee, she was a valuable resource,” he said. “She taught me the ins and outs of the job. It will be hard to replace her. She did a very capable job.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Raisian Funeral Home in Conneaut.
