Budget analyst to work part time

JEFFERSON — The county’s budget analyst, James Hardin, has stepped down to part-time hours as a result of health issues.

Hardin, who was hired by the county in May 2006, said Thursday afternoon that the Parkinson’s disease he was diagnosed with nearly a decade ago has progressed to the point that he needs to go on disability. That process can take several months, and Hardin plans to work part time in the interim.

Commissioners passed a financial resolution Thursday, which included a change in Hardin’s employment status. Hardin will work 32 hours per pay, or 16 hours per week, at a rate of roughly half of what he has been making. The change became effective Thursday.

The board of commissioners has a policy not to comment on personnel matters to the press, said County Administrator Janet Discher.

Hardin said commissioners have been gracious in working with him as his illness progressed and in going on disability.
