CONNEAUT — A Conneaut woman facing charges stemming from an underage drinking party at her home last week will appear in Conneaut Municipal Court next week, according to records.
Irene Metcalf, 46, 405 Middle Road, is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Tuesday, a court spokeswoman said. Metcalf faces a felony charge of tampering with evidence, as well as misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and furnishing alcohol to underage persons.
She was charged Thursday in connection with a party held at her house, which was visited by police around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. As officers stood outside and watched, young people inside hurried to scoop up and carry away beer bottles and cans. Moments later, as police knocked on doors, they saw Metcalf travel from room to room, carrying beer cans and cups.
When she came to the door, Metcalf told police she had been asleep and was unaware alcohol was available at the party. Police said they gave alcohol-breath tests to 13 juveniles and five young adults under 21.
The five young adults were cited, along with an unknown number of juveniles, officers said. The young adults, all charged with underage consumption and possession of alcohol, will appear in court Oct. 13, the spokeswoman said.
