ASHTABULA —
Democratic nominee for U.S. Representative from Ohio’s 14th District, William O’Neill, spoke Tuesday to about 20 members of the National Federation of Retired and Active Federal Employees at Saybrook Township Park.
O’Neill talked about some of the recent legislation that has passed that will affect retirees, specifically about Medicare.
“There has been a lot of legislation that my opponent, Steve LaTourette (R-Bainbridge) has cast votes against that will help seniors and retirees,” he said. “In the last two years alone, he has cast votes against closing the donut hole in the Medicare Part D plan and against providing new rules for Wall Street which washed-out many retirement accounts.”
O’Neill said he believes LaTourette must think “the ‘D’ in Medicare Part D means denying seniors cheaper health care.”
“We can’t afford another year of Steve LaTourette,” he said. “Medicare Part D is a mistake.”
O’Neill, a former judge, a retired Army officer, a registered nurse and a parent, told the group of seniors that he wanted to be their congressman. He said he once owned a business in Geneva-on-the-Lake, had a law office in Geneva and today works as a pediatric nurse at Hillcrest Hospital, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic.
The National Federation of Retired and Active Federal Employees is one of the few organizations dedicated to protecting retirees.
