Drug film to help fight drugs

Money will be donated toGleinbeigh

“Falling Backwards,” a family drama about a man struggling to save his son from drug addiction, will benefit a local hospital.

The independent film finished production Sunday in Lakewood.

The film is produced by local production company Giant Leap Pictures, which is  donating a portion of the film’s proceeds to Glenbeigh, a nonprofit specialty hospital in Rock Creek. Glenbeigh treats chemical dependency.

“That’s my vision,” said Cleveland resident Kenny Latimer, the director of “Falling Backwards” and the founder of Giant Leap Pictures. “With every film we produce, a portion of the proceeds will go to a charity related to the theme of the movie.”

Pat Weston-Hall, chief executive officer of Glenbeigh, said it’s an honor to be selected as the recipient of a portion of the proceeds from the film.

“Mr. Latimer’s generosity will help bring the tools for recovery to over 2,500 individuals who turn to Glenbeigh annually for help with chemical dependency issues,” she said.

Latimer said he’s about six days from wrapping up “Falling Backwards.”

The movie includes shots from in and around Cleveland and will have premiers in Cleveland, Canton and New Philadelphia.

The film stars Cleveland native Robert Piper (All My Children, Rescue Me), Karyn White (Casualties of War, Deadpool), Tom Dubyna (The Homecoming, Doughboy) and Jimmie Lee Williams (Freerunner, The Black Dove).

"Falling Backwards" is the latest in a line of movies that have been filmed in the Cleveland area.

Latimer said no matter how big Giant Leap gets, he will never leave Cleveland. He said the city is full of untapped potential.

The film “Beautiful Garden” was shot at Ross Deli on Detroit Avenue, and a few months ago, “Fun Size” starring Victoria Justice, was shot on Andrews Avenue in Cleveland.
