NEW LYME TOWNSHIP —
The permit for an injection well in New Lyme Township has been revoked by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, according to published reports on Friday.
The state moved to revoke the permit held by D&L Energy Group of Youngstown, which has been implicated in an investigation into illegal dumping of drilling waste into a storm sewer that drains into the Mahoning River.
According to the Plain Dealer, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has ordered D&L Energy to cease all injection well operations in the state of Ohio. In addition to the operating well in New Lyme Township, D&L has an operating well in Trumbull County and three under construction, none of them in Ashtabula County.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ inventory of injection wells shows that the New Lyme Township well dates back to 1982 and first received injections in March 1986. It was last monitored in August 2010.
New Lyme Township trustees did not respond to a request for comment on the action.
D&L Energy used the well to dispose of drilling waste, according to the Plain Dealer story.
