ROME TOWNSHIP — Ashtabula County humane officers removed one dog and six puppies last week from a Price Road residence and plan to remove more dogs this week.
Greg Dovalosky, 64, of 6290 Price Road, was charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals, according to Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court records.
Humane Society officers said Monday there were nearly 20 dogs roaming Dovalosky's property but they couldn’t catch them all. Consequently, he may face more charges.
Dovalosky could not be reached for comment Monday.
The puppies removed from the property suffered mange, fleas, worms, and they were malnourished, agents said.
The animals now are in the care of Austinburg veterinarian Becky Salinger, and they are being treated for their health problems.
“Hopefully, they will make a full recovery,” Humane agent Colleen Fobes said.
Fobes said agents and an Ashtabula County Sheriff’s deputy went to the property after receiving tips from people walking nearby on the Greenway Trail. The tipsters described neglected animals, she said.
