MADISON TOWNSHIP — Around mid-February, the staff and family at Debonne Vineyards starts to get a little cabin fever.

“We start thinking about going outside and getting some fresh air,” winery secretary Terri Beech said. “And no matter how cold it is outside, there is always a nice warm fire inside.”

To help cure cabin fever for adults and children alike, Debonne Vineyards will host a Winery Winterfest Saturday, complete with mulled wine, hot chocolate and lots of outdoor activities.

Participants can bring their own snowman accessories and try their mittened hands at the snowman contest at 1 p.m., Beech said.

Other activities include a snowball toss and dog sledding demonstration. In the pavilion, children can participate in the snowman coloring contest and create a winter snowman craft.

“The event is mostly for the kids,” Beech said. “We want to help get them out of the house, get them active and let them have a little fun. The winery and vineyard is a family owned and operated business, so we are also family-oriented. The winery is great for parents and adults, but it is also a great place for the kids, too.”

Beech said the vineyard’s extensive property allows for plenty of outdoor fun, and the furnace will be working overtime to keep everyone warm inside after the outdoor fun is over.

Beech said she won’t have to hope too hard for some snow.

“The forecast is on our side, with snow showers predicted every day this week,” she said. “We should have plenty of white stuff for snowmen and snowballs.”
