Conneaut’s manager to get contract

CONNEAUT — Conneaut City Manager Tim Eggleston is poised to receive a new contract at Monday’s regular City Council meeting, officials said.

“I’m undoubtedly sure we’re going to clear this thing up and clear this up prior to (Eggleston’s) contract expiration date (on Wednesday),” Council President Thomas Udell said Thursday. “I see no reason we can’t accomplish that. I truly believe everything will be wrapped up on June 25.”

Eggleston, too, was optimistic a deal will be sealed before the Wednesday deadline. He said it will be a four-year contract.

“We have come to some resolution on it,” he said. “It’s a good contract.”

No details on the proposed contract were immediately available. Eggleston, who held a series of municipal positions in Michigan before coming to Conneaut, was paid $72,000.

The contract included mandatory quarterly meetings between manager and council to discuss his performance. Udell said council passed along recommendations during those sessions.

“There have been very, very few areas of concern,” he said. “As a whole, council feels he is doing a fine job.”

Eggleston is concluding one year on the job. He is Conneaut’s fifth manager since a manager/council form of government was launched at the start of 1992. The first manager was Robert Herron, who served 10 years. Herron was followed by Tim Hansley, Doug Lewis and Robert Schaumleffel Jr.
